Google AdSense Auto Ads: an Introduction

What are Google AdSense Auto ads?

You may have heard that Google has introduced new AdSense ad formats called Auto ads. Auto ads are in fact a family of ad formats that offer a simple and innovative way for publishers to monetise their content (Google, 2018). Google understands that developing content is a time-consuming job, and sometimes publishers spend more time on content development than monetisation. Therefore, Google has introduced Auto ads so that publishers do not need to worry about ads any more as Google will take care of them!

Benefits of Google AdSense Auto ads

There are many benefits of using Google AdSense Auto ads. Google (2018) has stated some of the benefits as follows:

Google uses machine learning and will show ads to the visitors of your site only when the ads are likely to perform really well. These ads are also meant to provide the visitors with a very good user experience.

You may have seen that many sites often have a lot of unused ad space. Auto ads will automatically identify available ads space in your site which would increase your revenue potential.

The best advantage of using AdSense Auto ads is that you need to place the ad code on your web pages only once. There are a number of ad options available for you e.g. Text & display ads, In-feed ads, In-article ads, Matched content, Anchor ads, Vignette ads, and more to come! If you are running a WordPress site, you can use a Plugin to set up AdSense Auto ads in your site.

Issues to consider

Previously, publishers used to control the number of ads being displayed on their sites in line with the Google guidelines. Now Google will decide how many and how often the ads will be displayed on your site.
